Three of Adam's photographs reached the semi final stage of the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPotY) 2008 competition. This success followed on from the 2006 and 2007 WPotY competitions, in each of which two of Adam's photographs made it to the semi finals.

In the same month, Adam had successes in two categories of the 2008 Celebrating Ecology Photographic Competition, organised by the British Ecological Society. He won the Ecosystems and Communities category with an image of a herring gull harrassing a great skua, while his image of a puffin in flight carrying sandeels was runner-up in the Student category.
